The Webster Technique

When we know better, we do better

The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment commonly used during pregnancy. It is designed to address the effects of sacral subluxation and pelvic imbalance, particularly involving the sacroiliac joints, which may influence comfort, balance, and overall function during pregnancy.

At Andromeda Wellness +, Dr. Kate Wong uses the Webster Technique as part of a neuro-biomechanical approach to support better alignment, improved pelvic balance, and greater ease within the body during pregnancy.

Why the Webster Technique is used in pregnancy

The International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) recognizes the Webster Technique as a chiropractic approach used in the care of pregnant women, especially when pelvic imbalance and sacral dysfunction may be present.

When the pelvis is not moving or balancing well, it may contribute to tension patterns in the surrounding muscles and ligaments. This can affect comfort, biomechanics, and the environment in which the baby is growing and preparing for birth.

The goal of the Webster Technique is not to “turn” babies or perform obstetric care, but rather to help restore better pelvic and sacral balance so the body can function more optimally.

Clinical considerations

Dystocia, as described in obstetrics, is often discussed in relation to three primary factors:

  • Powers — the strength and coordination of uterine contractions

  • Passenger — the baby’s presentation and position

  • Passage — the shape, balance, and soft tissue dynamics of the pelvis and surrounding structures

When sacral misalignment, pelvic imbalance, or abnormal tension patterns are present, they may influence the biomechanics of pregnancy and labor. This is why the Webster Technique is often used as a clinical framework when these findings are present.

Our approach at Andromeda Wellness +

At Andromeda Wellness +, the Webster Technique is used as part of a broader nervous system-based and biomechanical approach to pregnancy care.

When pelvic imbalance or sacral misalignment is present, care is focused on helping reduce nerve interference, improve pelvic motion and balance, and address tension patterns that may affect comfort and function throughout pregnancy.

Our goal is to support mothers with thoughtful, personalized care that helps the body function with greater ease during pregnancy and birth preparation.
